High Stakes Charters offers a 53’ Striker Sport Fisherman. In fall of 2019, High Stakes underwent a major engine room upgrade and restoration. We now have brand new 650 HP Caterpillar engines. This upgrade allows our customers more time fishing and less time traveling. It takes approximately 17 minutes and is a straight shot to the fishing grounds from where the boat is located at Oceans Edge Resort and Marina, on the south side of the island. Father/Son team, Don and Jason Jonas, will provide a professional, memorable fishing experience you won’t forget! Here’s a little history about the team.
Don’s family moved from Connecticut to Key West when he was just a child. At 16, he became a diver for world renowned treasure hunter, Mel Fisher. During the 20 years of employment with the Fishers, Don became Captain of their 85′ dive boat, the JB Magruder.
Jason, born and raised in Key West, at age 18 earned his Captain’s license. Like father, like son he furthered his career by getting their 100 ton Master Captain’s license. In 2013, Captain Jason Jonas at age 27 became the youngest captain ever to win the Key West Marlin Tournament. In 2016, Captain Jason got 3rd place overall and 1st place in the Mahi division. In 2017, Captain Jason led his team to a 2nd place finish in the 67th Edition of the International Hemingway Marlin Tournament in Cuba. In 2019, Captain Jason earned his charter 1st place in the Mahi division of the Key West Marlin Tournament. Over the course of his career he has earned over $100,000 in tournament winnings for his charters!
Their hard work and dedication has taken them fishing and sailing to exotic places such as Cuba, Belize, Mexico, Dominican Republic, British Virgin Islands and the Bahamas. With their 35 years of combined experience, knowledge of surrounding waters and professionalism, you will have the ultimate fishing experience.
